To Retire or Not to Retire?

That is the question. In 2015 I wrote this article on LinkedIn to express my thoughts about retirement: A Message from a Baby Boomer
It’s hard to believe that ten years have passed and here we are! Little did I know that we were headed into a pandemic, or that I would soon suffer an injury that would leave me partially disabled, or that this country would start revoking peoples' civil rights and take on the characteristics of a police state. Didn't see that comin'!
Even so, my thoughts on the subject of retirement haven’t changed. I retired three years ago and here’s how things are shaping up so far:
- Painted my house and fixed up the downstairs as a rental unit for additional income,
- Applied for and was granted a patent for my enclosed apiary with configurable flight portal.
- Positioned my invention as a branded product,
- Wrote and published two ebooks, and
- Built the HoneyBower website with a store to sell enclosed apiary kits for backyard beekeepers.
It might seem like a lot of work, but it's more a matter of creative expression. I've always been an "idea person" and enjoy a challenge. Come to think of it, what retirement means to me is having the freedom to work on my own projects. In other words, retirement for me is a full-time job!
